A man has been arrested after another man suffered injuries in a dog attack in York.
North Yorkshire Police said officers were called at about 15:15 GMT on Friday to reports of several dogs on the loose in Bellhouse Way.
One of the dogs, described as a large Alsatian-type dog, bit a man in the leg, causing deep cuts, before chasing a delivery driver in the area.
Police said due to the animal’s aggressive state, it was put down by firearms officers and a man in his 50s was later arrested on suspicion of owning or being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury.
He remains in custody, a police spokesperson said, while the man who was bitten required hospital treatment.
A road closure was put in place due to “the serious risk of danger” to the public, police said.
The road reopened at about 16:30 GMT.
