BBCThe governor of HMP Lindholme in Doncaster has been dismissed, HM Prison Service confirmed.
The service did not say why Rob Kellett was no longer in post but a spokesperson said: “Where staff fall below our high standards, we do not hesitate to take robust action.”
Mr Kellett was appointed governor at Lindholme in February 2021, replacing Simon Walters.
“Prison Service staff are expected to meet high standards of professional and personal conduct,” the prison service said.
It added: “Those who fail to demonstrate and maintain professional standards undermine the excellent work and professionalism of the vast majority of our colleagues.”
The prison’s last Independent Monitoring Board report, published in July, found there had been three deaths in custody in the last year.
The report added that “violence has increased within the prison, much of this resulting from the significant amounts of illicit drugs and contraband coming into the prison”.
PA MediaAccording to Mr Kellett’s LinkedIn profile, he worked on the prison safety team at HMP Wakefield from July 2019 to February 2021 and was director at HMP Birmingham for a year before that.
He was also previously managing director of Interserve Healthcare and between 2010 and 2011 was governing governor at HMPs Hatfield and Moorland.
From 2007 to 2010 he was governing governor at HMP Leeds.
Mr Kellett was succeeded at HMP Lindholme by Shaun Mycroft.
