Rail services between West Yorkshire and Manchester will be affected until Tuesday morning following a fire in a tunnel over the weekend.
Lines were blocked between Marsden near Huddersfield and Stalybridge in Tameside due to a blaze in the Standedge Tunnel, operator TransPennine Express (TPE) confirmed on Sunday.
However, despite crews working through the night it has now been established that repair works will take until the end of Monday.
Other routes will also be affected including from Manchester Picadilly and Victoria and from Liverpool Lime Street.
Where possible trains will divert via the Calder Valley but trains that divert between Leeds and Manchester Victoria will not call at Huddersfield and Stalybridge, TPE added.
Some services will call additionally at Mirfield where passengers can connect to Northern services towards Huddersfield and Leeds.
In an update on the TPE website, the operator advised customers travelling from Manchester to Huddersfield to use Manchester Victoria and change at Dewsbury for rail replacement services.
Customers heading from Leeds to Huddersfield should travel via Sheffield or also switch to rail replacement services at Dewsbury.
A TPE spokesperson said: “Please be advised other operators are likely to be busy and customers may experience overcrowding on services.”
