National Highways confirm there will be no overnight weekend closures as part of the A63 Castle Street project for this upcoming weekend.
- The planned east and westbound overnight closures (8pm-6am) on Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1, are no longer required, National Highways confirmed.
- ‘Essential works’ are continuing this week as the team lay the new road surfaces and install technology for the traffic lights.
- Continued overnight closures will return from Monday, February 2.
- A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The equipment we use means that some disturbance is unfortunately unavoidable, but we make every effort to minimise noise generated by the activity. We apologise for any disruption during this complex phase of the scheme.”
- Earlier this month, National Highways said the A63 Castle Street project was moving into its “complex final phase, with the £355m scheme “approaching a key milestone”.
- It is expected that the newly constructed underpass will open to traffic in a matter of weeks. The major project is set to be completed in the spring.
