The crossings on Marfleet Lane and Midmere Avenue will “make a real difference for the people in Hull”, says Hull City Councillor Mark Ieronimo

A road closure will be in place as two new crossings are installed close to a Hull secondary school and along a popular cycle route. Hull City Council announced that work to install two new parallel crossings in east Hull will begin next week. The council said the crossings will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.
The crossings will be installed on Marfleet Lane and Midmere Avenue as part of the council’s bid to create safer roads and encourage active travel across the city. The new crossing on Midmere Avenue will be installed adjacent to the eastern entrance of Winifred Holtby Academy, providing a safer crossing point for pupils, staff, residents and other road users. Construction will take place from Monday 27 July until Friday 21 August 2026.
The second crossing on Marfleet Lane will be on the bridge over the Holderness Drain and aims to improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists. Work will take place from Monday 3 August until Friday 28 August. To allow for the installation of anti-skid surfacing and replacement road markings, a one-day road closure will be required on Wednesday 26 August, with a signed diversion route in place.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “Improving safety on our roads is a top priority, and these new crossings will make a real difference for people in east Hull. “The crossing outside Winifred Holtby Academy will give pupils, parents and staff a much safer way to get in and out of school, while the new crossing on Marfleet Lane will help pedestrians and cyclists travel through the area with greater confidence. We know these works can cause some disruption, so I’d like to thank residents for their patience while we get this important work done.”
