Police patrols have been increased in part of Sheffield after what officers said were two linked incidents of disorder which had left three people injured.
Officers would remain in the Page Hall area “through the night and in the coming days” following reports of violence on Monday and Tuesday, according to a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
People carrying wooden bats had been reported on Willoughby Street on Monday and a woman was left needing hospital treatment, while an alleged assault involving people with metal bars was reported on Owler Lane on Tuesday, they said.
Two men were seriously injured in the Owler Lane attack and the incidents were being treated as “connected”, they added.
According to police, officers were first called at about 22:15 BST on Monday to reports of a disturbance involving a large group of people on Willoughby Street.
Members of the group were reported to have been carrying wooden bats and only dispersed after officers arrived.
A woman suffered minor injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment but had since been discharged.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and later released on bail, the police spokesperson said.
