Jordan McMichael, 27, has been told he should “count himself fortunate” to have avoided prison after headbutting a wardrobe, smashing a window and throwing gold body oil around his former partner’s home while on a suspended sentence for drug charges
A Bridlington man who “scared the living daylights” out of his victim while “smashing up her home” has been told he should “count himself fortunate” he has escaped jail after admitting a criminal damage charge while on a suspended sentence. Jordan McMichael, 27, of Holyrood Avenue, Bridlington, was handed a fine of £100 and told to pay his victim £600 in compensation after he headbutted her wardrobe, smashed a window and threw gold body oil around her home in an alcohol-fuelled, late-night rampage.
He was previously given a two-year suspended prison sentence after admitting being concerned in supplying cocaine on the streets of Bridlington on 13 November 2023. Recorder Gordon Stables chose not to send him to prison at a sentencing hearing for the criminal damage charge at Hull Crown Court on Friday.
In May 2024, McMichael was one of three young drug dealers who were caught by police with either cocaine or heroin, after eagle-eyed CCTV operators spotted suspicious activity in the Bridlington seafront area. They were detained at the Leisure World area of the resort and they were all found to have been involved in drug dealing. They said that they were ordered to sell drugs by others further up the supply chain.
On Friday, Hull Crown Court heard how McMichael was invited to stay over at the home of a former partner after they met up on a night out on 12 April 2026. Their relationship had ended in November the previous year.
Henry Fernandez, prosecuting, said: “He was intoxicated and in an aggressive mood. During the early hours of the morning he threw a pint glass at her bedroom window, which smashed it. Later in the morning he punched a hole in her television and in her wall, and he headbutted her wardrobe and stained the wardrobe and the walls with gold body oil.”
Mr Fernandez added that the victim “does not feel safe in her own address after this incident and she worries about bringing her son home.” The court heard McMichael has four previous convictions for seven offences, including three convictions of criminal damage from 2020.
Holly Turner, mitigating, said: “He accepts that it was terrible offending and she must’ve been petrified at the result of his actions. There’s no shying away from the fact that he was in drink at the time and he holds his hands up that drink was a contributing factor to him behaving in this manner.” She said the probation service reported he had previously engaged well with the service after his previous convictions and was doing “remarkably well”.
She said he has work lined up with a family friend and “his goal after today is to keep his head down, keep out of trouble and to comply with these orders and move on with his life.” She said his two young children, a son and a daughter, were his motivation for that.
But Recorder Stables said this was “completely at odds with the man who can’t control his temper and who scared the living daylights out of this woman, smashing up her home.”
Recorder Stables said: “The facts are troubling. On the night in question she allowed you to come back to her home. Instead of responding with gratitude you repaid her kindness with anger, destruction and intimidation. Your conduct turned her home into a place of fear and distress.” However he took into account that McMichael was close to the end of his suspended sentence and had completed a high number of hours of unpaid work.
McMichael was fined £100 for the breach of his suspended sentence. He was given a 12-month community order for the criminal damage offence and ordered to do 60 hours of unpaid work, and 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days. He was also given an alcohol abstinence monitoring tag for three months. He was also ordered to pay the victim £600 in compensation.
A restraining order was imposed forbidding McMichael from contacting the victim or entering her address.
“You need to get a grip of yourself,” Recorder Stables said.
