In Hebden Bridge, the trust is seeking volunteers to assist with water conservation measures during drought conditions.
Volunteers will be asked to help padlock some locks overnight to help conserve water and enable navigation.
They would cycle along the Rochdale Canal towpath through Hebden Bridge during the evening, helping lock up the locks, supporting boaters and reporting any issues.
The Rochdale canal runs for 32 miles (51 km) and is a popular destination for visitors. It travels from Manchester to Sowerby Bridge.
The canal opened in sections between 1798 and 1800 and connects to the wider network at Sowerby Bridge linking to the Calder and Hebble Navigation.
Canal & River Trust regional director Sean McGinley said volunteers play a “vital role” in keeping the waterways active.
“Volunteers contribute thousands of hours each year helping to maintain waterways, support visitors and protect the canal network.
“Their contribution enables us to keep canals open, care for our heritage structures and provide welcoming places for local communities and visitors,” he said.
