Latest notable planning developments in Hull and East Riding
- Sycamore tree could be felled in Beverley: East Riding Council is looking at an application to cut down a sycamore tree close to Beverley Minster. Planners have received an application to chop down the tree at 69 Minster Moorgate, close to the town’s famous Minster and within its conservation zone. Although sycamore trees do not have special protection, planners have to look at any application to top, lop, uproot, or fell any tree in a conservation area.
- Lighting plan for new Howden Fire Station: the new fire station in Howden could benefit from lighting columns and exterior lighting. An application has been submitted to East Riding Council to erect two five metre high lighting columns to illuminate the station. Three exterior lights will be fitted to the station as part of the plan, but these do not need planning permission.
- Solar panels plan for Beverley Leisure Centre: permission is being sought for the installation of solar canopies at Beverley Leisure Centre as part of a wider sustainability scheme. The plan follows the successful installation of a ten bay canopy in the summer. The new canopy could be installed along the length of 13 further existing car park bays. Officers behind the scheme hope it will maximise the available surface area for generating electricity. The planning document notes that as well as providing solar energy the canopy could provide shelter for vehicles and will be a cantilevered structure made from galvanised steel.
- Large eucalyptus tree chopped down : Hull City Council planners gave permission for a 17metre high eucalyptus tree at 69 Park Avenue to be cut down last month. The tree was showing significant movement, with the application noting its instability may have been related to the hot weather and drought this summer. The tree was cut down due to the risk of falling on nearby property.
- Application for HMO in Hull : planners are considering an application for a small HMO at 79 Albert Avenue to be given a certificate of lawful use. The property has six bedrooms and the certificate will grant operation and allow up to six people to live there.
