Work will get underway this weekend on York Street and Wincolmlee
Road improvement works are set to begin this weekend on two Hull routes. Essential repairs will get underway on Saturday, November 7, focusing on York Street and a section of Wincolmlee between York Street and Chapman Street.
Hull City Council officials identified both stretches as requiring immediate attention following noticeable deterioration to the carriageway surface. Contractor PBS Construction will deliver the five-week scheme on behalf of the local authority, which is expected to run until Friday, December 11.
Crews will excavate the existing degraded road surface before fully reconstructing it to create a safer, skid-resistant carriageway designed to benefit motorists, cyclists, and all other users. To allow the reconstruction to proceed safely, a series of road closures will be enforced across the duration of the project, including on weekends.
Travel across York Street, Wincolmlee, Swann Street, and Barmston Street will be impacted at various intervals throughout the works. Nearby residents and business owners are being alerted ahead of time via a direct letter drop containing project contact details. In addition, on-site information boards will be positioned along surrounding routes to provide ongoing updates regarding access restrictions and progress.
Speaking about the upcoming project, Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “As a council, we have a responsibility to maintain our road network, and these works form an important part of that commitment.
“These essential improvements will help ensure York Street and Wincolmlee continue to provide a safe and reliable route for all road users. By carrying out these repairs now, we can address deterioration before it worsens, helping to prevent more extensive and costly works in the future.
“We appreciate that these works will cause some temporary disruption and would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while the improvements are completed.”
Motorists and local premises have been advised that all scheduled dates remain weather dependent and could be subject to change if adverse conditions arise.
