The first fixed speed camera in North Yorkshire has been installed this week in a location where a previous one was toppled over.
Police said the site on the A64 in Sherburn, between Malton and Scarborough, was chosen due to collision and speed-offence data.
Last year, a fixed camera was put up in the same spot as part of a three-month trial, but it was found deliberately knocked over hours before it was due to be switched on.
The county is one of only a few in England that does not have any fixed cameras and instead relies on mobile speed vans.
A force spokesperson said: “As North Yorkshire Police is responsible for policing more than 6,000 miles (9,656 km) of road, improving road safety and reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured remains a key priority.
“Last year, a trial was launched on the A64 at a site identified through collision and speed-offence data.
