School children joined residents in intergenerational games

Competitive spirit was to the fore at an East Yorkshire care home as residents and local children took part in their very own sports day. Care UK’s Primrose House, in Bluebird Way, Brough, welcomed pupils from Hunsley Primary for a variety of classic activities.
The day was filled with friendly competition and cheers of encouragement as the residents and children divided into Team Red and Team Blue. They then went head-to-head in a series of games, including tenpin bowling, a ferret race and throwing competitions.
Both teams gave it their all but there could only be one winner, with Team Blue taking the honours. Following the activities, the teams came together to enjoy refreshments, including fizzy drinks and flavoured water.
Sylvia Carter, resident at Primrose House, said: “I was playing on the blue team, and had a fantastic day. The care team are just fabulous.”
Braiden Brettell, home manager at Primrose House, said: “It was lovely to welcome Hunsley Primary to our sports day. Intergenerational events like this can make such a difference and help residents stay socially connected while forging links with the local community.
“It was such a wonderful day filled with so much energy, joy and laughter. What a fantastic way to bring everyone together for a little healthy competition and round off a summer of sport that will certainly be remembered fondly.”
