York’s main Post Office will close next month together with the city’s TG Jones store.
The Coney Street branch will shut on 14 October, it has been announced.
It comes after TG Jones’ owner Modella Capital confirmed plans to close up to 150 stores across the UK in July.
In a statement the Post Office said it hoped to open a replacement branch “as soon as possible”.
York’s main Post Office has been based in TG Jones since 2019, when it moved from its historic site in Lendal.
Closing down signs have now appeared in the windows of the Coney Street shop.
The notice says the last day of trading will be Monday 19 October, but the Post Office has confirmed its final day will be Wednesday 14 October.
It states: “Following our retail partner TG Jones restructure plans this store is due to close.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We are working to restore a Post Office in this area.”
